More Americans Get Covered in States Embracing ACA

According to the Gallup poll released yesterday, the uninsured rate is dropping faster in states that have fully embraced the Affordable Care Act.  The uninsured rate among adults 18 years and older in the 21 states (including Washington, DC) that set up their own healthcare exchanges and expanded Medicaid, have dropped 2.5%.  The 29 states who choose not to expand Medicaid and/or not to set up healthcare exchanges only declined 0.8%.

EVENT: NABJ Conference on Health, Health Policy and Health Inequities

Today, the National Association of Black Journalists host their 2014 Conference on Health, Health Policy and Health Inequities. The goal of this conference is to provide print, broadcast and multimedia journalists with tools to effectively report on the impact of health care reform and health policy on underserved communities.

Joint Center Vice President and Director of the Health Policy Institute, Dr. Brian Smedley, will be speaking on a panel, discussing the Affordable Care Act and closing disparities in communities of color.

Congressional Black Caucus Daily Tweetstorm #BlackMenEnroll

With only five days left to sign up for health insurance without a penalty under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) announced they will be hosting a tweetstorm at 3 PM ET everyday until March 31st. Legislatures, staffers, and CBC followers tweeted pictures of themselves holding the Black Men Enroll poster, hoping to raise black men’s health insurance enrollment rate by March 31st.
