Texas state Senator Rodney Ellis, co-chair of the Joint Center’s Commission to Engage African Americans on Climate Change, is bicycling across Texas to raise awareness for the Rise School, a school program that provides early childhood education to children with diverse needs.

Senator Ellis is leading Team Senate and riding in friendly competition against Team House, led by State Representative Carol Alvarado. The two week ride covers 800 miles, goes through thirteen counties and stops at dozens of towns.

  1. It’s a long way to make bikes a viable means of commuting. First, you have to build bike-friendly roads. I watched a TV program on the bicycle culture in Portland, Oregon a few years ago. It was good.
